Code of Conduct & Professional Boundaries
Version 1.0 · draft for approval
How we behave in people's homes: the SSSC Codes, boundaries, gifts and money, and what family-feel care does and doesn't mean.
Draft for approval — awaiting formal adoption by the registered manager; not yet in force.
The standard we work to
"Care that feels like family" describes the warmth of our care — not the boundaries of it. We are professionals working in people's homes, and everyone at LuxAmor Care works to the SSSC Codes of Practice for Social Service Workers. Breaching the Codes can affect your SSSC registration as well as your employment.
In every visit
- Be reliable: arrive within the visit window, stay the full planned time, and complete all planned tasks. Tell the office as early as possible if you are running late.
- Treat people and their homes with respect — their home, their rules, their routines and preferences.
- Support independence: do things with people, not just for them.
- Wear your ID badge and present yourself neatly and appropriately for personal care work.
- Never attend work under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and never smoke or vape in or around a client's home.
Professional boundaries
- Do not give clients or families your personal phone number or connect with them on social media — contact goes through the office.
- Do not visit clients outside rostered visits or arrange private work with them. Private arrangements with LuxAmor clients are a disciplinary matter.
- Do not share your own problems, finances or relationships in a way that burdens the person you support.
- Do not take anyone else (including children or pets) to a client's home.
Gifts, money and wills
- Never accept money, loans or valuables from a client. A small token gift (biscuits, a card) may be accepted only if refusing would cause genuine hurt — tell your manager the same day so it can be recorded.
- Never get involved in a client's will, power of attorney or finances beyond tasks written in their support plan (e.g. recorded shopping with receipts).
- Handle any client money exactly as the support plan says: receipts for everything, records for everything.
