Shared duties

Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, LuxAmor Care must protect your health and safety so far as reasonably practicable — and you must take reasonable care of yourself and others, cooperate with our procedures, and never misuse anything provided for safety.

Risk assessments

• Every client has an environmental risk assessment in their support plan (trip hazards, oxygen, smoking, pets, electrics, access). Read it before your first visit and follow its controls.
• Conditions change: new clutter, a broken stair rail, a new pet, a hoarding situation. Report changes to the office so the assessment is updated — do not just quietly work around a hazard.

Accidents and incidents

• Report every accident, injury or near miss involving you or a client to your manager the same day, and record it as directed.
• Some events (major injuries, over-7-day absences, dangerous occurrences) are reportable to the HSE under RIDDOR — management handles this, but only if you report promptly.
• First aid: make the person safe, use your training, call 999 when in doubt. Every care bag carries basic first aid supplies — report use so they are restocked.

Specific hazards

• Fire: know the exit route in each home; never block it; take fire risks (overloaded sockets, smoking near oxygen) seriously and report them.
• COSHH: use household chemicals per their labels, never mix cleaning products (especially bleach with anything), store them away from confused adults and children.
• Sharps: dispose of razors and needles per the support plan; never re-sheath needles; report needle-stick injuries immediately.
