Lone Working & Personal Safety
Version 1.0 · draft for approval
Almost all of our work is lone working. Clock-ins as your safety net, the panic alert, travelling safely and when to withdraw.
Draft for approval — awaiting formal adoption by the registered manager; not yet in force.
Our safety net
Nearly every LuxAmor visit is delivered alone in someone else's home. Your safety matters as much as our clients' — no task is worth being harmed for.
- Clock in and out of every visit. Clock-ins are how we know where you are: missed clock-outs trigger a check on you, so 'quietly skipping' them removes your safety net. (Until the portal activates, follow the interim check-in instructions from the office.)
- The Hub has a panic alert that messages managers and on-call with your location. Learn where it is before you need it. In immediate danger, 999 always comes first.
- Keep your phone charged and on you — not in the car — during visits.
Reading the situation
- Before entering, pause: unexpected people, animals loose, signs of drink or drugs, anything that feels wrong. Trust your instinct — it is data.
- If a situation feels unsafe, you are always authorised to withdraw. Leave, get somewhere safe, then call the office/on-call immediately so the client's care can be re-arranged. You will never be criticised for withdrawing in good faith.
- Report every incident of aggression, abuse or a near miss — including verbal abuse — the same day. Reporting protects the next colleague through the door.
Travelling and keys
- Park in lit areas where possible; keep bags out of sight; lock the car during visits.
- Memorise or securely store key-safe codes as instructed — never written next to an address. Report lost keys or a compromised code immediately.
