Mandatory training

The 18 courses every member of staff completes, chosen for Scottish care at home. Practical courses are delivered in-house; e-learning links appear in the Hub's Training section once the portal is live, which also tracks your renewals and issues your certificates.

4	Emergency First Aid (incl. CPR)	In-house / face-to-face	36 months	Certified course; an annual CPR refresher is good practice.
5	Infection Prevention & Control	E-learning	12 months	We move between vulnerable people's homes every day.
6	Food Safety & Hygiene (Level 2)	E-learning	24 months	Staff prepare food in clients' homes.
7	Safe Handling & Administration of Medication	E-learning + in-house competency	24 months	Theory plus observed competency; underpins the Medication Support policy.
8	Fire Safety (Home Care Settings)	E-learning	12 months	Domestic fire risk, prevention and evacuation.
9	Health & Safety Essentials	E-learning	36 months	Risk assessment and accident/RIDDOR awareness.

14	Dementia Awareness (Promoting Excellence — Informed)	E-learning	36 months	Scotland's Promoting Excellence framework, Informed level for all staff.
15	Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act — Awareness	E-learning	36 months	Capacity, consent, POA and guardianship under the AWI (Scotland) Act 2000.

Beyond the all-staff matrix

Some roles carry extra training on top — for example observed medication competency before administering, and client-specific modules (catheter care, PEG feeding, diabetes) agreed in supervision when a support plan needs them. Anyone keen to go further (SVQs, senior roles) should say so in supervision.
